Rate noise, solid fundamentals

September saw equities and bonds decline in tandem, while performance across equity markets became increasingly concentrated. Technology and oil were the main exceptions, supported by continued investment in artificial intelligence and higher energy prices. Despite resilient economic activity in the United States and signs of improvement in Europe, persistent inflation and rising financing needs kept long-term interest rates under pressure.

Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, our outlook remains constructive. Robust nominal growth and broadening corporate earnings continue to support markets, while higher bond yields have restored a more meaningful income cushion for diversified portfolios. Political uncertainty surrounding the US midterm elections may fuel short-term volatility, but we believe the focus will ultimately return to the fundamentals: earnings, economic growth and monetary policy.

We remain invested and vigilant, viewing potential market dislocations as opportunities to strengthen quality positions.
