Folding@Home - Hacking Coronavirus and other Diseases through Crowd Computing

Banque Heritage joins the project helping scientists around the world fight diseases like Alzheimer's, Huntington's and COVID-19.

You may have heard of crowdfunding, but you are probably not aware of crowd computing.

After the New Corona Virus started spreading beyond its ground zero in China it received its name COVID-19 and qualified as a pandemic. This is when Folding@Home, a project dedicated to aiding global research on diseases like Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s and a variety of forms of cancer, turned its efforts to fighting this new virus. Essentially, the proteins in the Coronavirus suppress our immune system and help it reproduce itself. By doing research on these proteins and understanding their structure therapeutics can be developed to help cure patients and potentially save many lives.

Banque Heritage has been looking for ways to contribute to the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and found Folding@Home to be a great project we want to participate in. Not only has Folding@Home been around for close to 20 years, it has also reached exaflop capacity – that is 1’000’000’000’000’000’000 floating point operations per second – giving it more computing power than the world’s greatest supercomputers. The concept is simple: When you are not using your computer’s full computing power, you lend it to the project that uses it to run simulations of folding proteins. When we considered joining, our IT department put together spare hardware and set up an independent infrastructure, completely disconnected from the Bank – ensuring security and allowing it to operate at maximum capacity.

Our “Herit@GE” team is proud to be a part of the research helping scientists worldwide fight various diseases.
